
D. Andrew Carr, Ph.D. NASM-CPT, Former Founder/Artistic Director Open Door Studios Youth Ensemble has been an instructor and professional dancer for over 30 years. He has taught master classes on Ballet Technique, Pointe, Contemporary and Anatomy, Kinesiology and Injury Prevention to students, professional dancers and instructors all over the world. As a professional dancer he performed with ballet and modern companies including the Kansas City Ballet (formerly State Ballet of Missouri), Sacramento Ballet, and the Washington Ballet. He danced numerous principal roles from the age of 19. Some of his favorites were Prince Siegfried in Swan Lake, Phlegmatic and Sanguinic in Balanchine’s The Four Temperaments and the principal in Lila York’s Gloria. Andrew has worked as an artist for both the Balanchine Foundation and Tudor Foundation. In addition to performing Dr. Carr has extensive experience as an instructor, coach, choreographer and director. He currently teaches master classes and coaches pre-professional and professional dancers across the US. Andrew also works as a consulting Artistic Director and program designer for professional companies and schools all over the US. Dr. Carr is an ABT® Certified Teacher in Pre-Primary through Level 5 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum. In 2002, Andrew received accolades for his teaching and was honored as a Guest Master Instructor for the Texas Association of Teachers of Dance.
Andrew received his undergraduate degree in dance from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. In 2006, he received his Ph.D. in Bioinformatics from George Mason University and is adjunct research faculty at University of North Carolina Charlotte. To further expand his knowledge of human movement, sport science and injury prevention and how it applies to dance, Dr. Carr has worked with US Olympic trainers and recently (2017) obtained an international CPT license from the National Academy of Sport Medicine. Dr. Carr has completed further certification in corrective exercise CES, performance PES, youth YES and group GPTS specializations.
Dr. Andrew Carr currently works as a staff data scientist at Mantra Bio with a focus on exosomal protein modeling and has worked as a researcher, professor and educator who has worked with students for 30+ years. As professor has taught courses in bioinformatics, machine learning and database design for genomic scale bioinformatics. He is a published author in numerous fields including bioinformatics, nanotechnology and statistics. As an inventor he holds international patents for laboratory technologies. He currently works as a staff data scientist at Mantra Bio doing ML/AI guided therapeutic molecular design.
